Our partner David Fernando Rodrigues David Fernando Rodrigues and Thais Lio published an article on Lexology about a legal dispute between Ajinomoto and Burger King over a 2022 advertising campaign by the fast-food chain. Ajinomoto claimed the ad disparaged monosodium glutamate (MSG), a key ingredient in many of its products, by implying it was harmful, thus misleading consumers and damaging its brand image. After initially winning a favorable ruling, Ajinomoto saw the decision overturned by Brazil’s National Council for Advertising Self-Regulation (CONAR) in 2024.
