What is an Alliance?

Law firms create alliances with the main objective of expanding the possibilities of serving their clients in other cities, states and even countries.

A law firm alliance should not be confused with a network of correspondents, which are the arms commanded by a single brain, law firms or even just lawyers who carry out simple, bureaucratic, operational activities, under the command of a single law firm that develops all the intellectual, complex, and strategic work.

On the other hand, the alliance is a more complex and sophisticated structure. Each allied studio carries out operational and bureaucratic activities as well as develops intellectual and strategic work in its geographical area of operation.

Exemplifying:
Let’s say that a client of a law firm located in São Paulo needs legal services in Rio Grande do Sul and Uruguay. Through the São Paulo law firm of which it is a client, the law firm located in São Paulo can count on the legal services of the Rio Grande do Sul and Uruguay law firms, all three law firms – São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul and Uruguay – belonging to the same alliance.

And the law firm located in São Paulo will have these services with the same level of quality as that of the São Paulo law firm of which it is a client and with the indispensable knowledge of regional cultures and the local administrative and judicial bodies that the law firms of the Rio Grande do Sul and Uruguay have, being able to choose to directly relate to such law firms, becoming their client, or leave this relationship to the São Paulo law firm of which it is already a client.

Alliances are not service providers. This provision and the corresponding billing are the responsibility of each member law firm. In the case of the example above, billing can be done directly by the law firms in Rio Grande do Sul and Uruguay or centrally by the law firm in São Paulo, which, in this case, will be responsible for sharing the income obtained with the law firms in Rio Grande do Sul and Uruguay.

And speaking of earning income leads us to other objectives of alliances besides the main objective of expanding the possibilities of serving their customers in other cities, states and even countries.

Obviously, working in alliance generates new businesses, new clients for the member law firms and, consequently, an increase in their income.

Additionally, it creates a network for the exchange of experiences and consultations and discussions on legal theses in the abstract and specific cases, in addition to making it possible to hold events, seminars and congresses with shared costs among the allied law firms.

Alliances can be national only, serving a single country, regional or international. ALAE is a regional alliance.
